Marc Davies Psycotherapy

There will undoubtedly be times in your life where you're feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or simply unsure of your next step. Psychotherapy offers the chance to begin to understand yourself more deeply — and from that awareness, to grow and change.

Through therapy, you can begin to:

This work isn't about "fixing" you — it's about supporting you to see yourself more clearly, and to live in a way that feels more true to who you really are.

How I Work

I'm a senior student of Core Process Psychotherapy, working with adults in a warm, respectful and down-to-earth way.

At the heart of my approach is the belief that awareness itself is healing. By slowing down and paying attention to your experience — thoughts, feelings, memories, and the body — we begin to understand not just what is happening, but why.

Together, we create a space that's supportive, steady and non-judgemental. Over time, this allows what's been stuck, buried or avoided to come into view — and with that, the possibility of change.

Why Work With Me?

I bring a calm and grounded presence, and a genuine respect for the uniqueness of your life and your process.

You won't find quick fixes or one-size-fits-all answers here — but you will find space to explore, be heard, and discover new ways of relating to yourself and the world around you.

This work can be challenging at times, but it can also be deeply rewarding. You're not alone in it — I'll walk alongside you, supporting you to make sense of things in your own time and your own way.

What is Core Process Psychotherapy?

Core Process Psychotherapy (CPP) is one of the original mindfulness-based approaches to therapy, combining Western psychotherapeutic understanding with contemplative principles rooted in Buddhist psychology.

It offers a spacious, compassionate approach to exploring your inner life, grounded in the idea that awareness itself can be a powerful agent of change.

A Brief History

Core Process Psychotherapy was developed in the 1980s by Maura and Franklyn Sills, co-founders of the Karuna Institute in Devon.

They brought together elements of Western depth psychology — particularly psychodynamic and humanistic traditions — with insights from Buddhist philosophy, particularly the understanding that underneath layers of conditioning and struggle, we each have access to an innate sense of clarity, wellbeing and wholeness.

Today, CPP is known for its gentle, in-depth, and awareness-based approach.

What Makes It Different?

Unlike more directive or solution-focused models, Core Process Psychotherapy invites you to slow down and turn towards your experience with curiosity and compassion.

Rather than simply aiming to "fix" symptoms, we look at what those symptoms might be trying to tell you — what past experiences they may be rooted in, and what meaning they hold in the context of your life.

CPP recognises that we are shaped by many things — early relationships, culture, trauma, identity, and even inherited generational patterns — but we don't have to be defined by them. Through growing awareness, we begin to see more clearly the choices we do have.

How It Works in Practice

In sessions, we pay attention not just to the stories you tell, but how you experience those stories — in your body, emotions, thoughts, and relationships.

You may find yourself talking through present-day struggles, long-held patterns, or earlier experiences. I may invite you to notice how you feel in the moment, or to stay with a particular sensation or emotion that arises. This kind of mindful attention helps bring deeper layers of awareness into focus — often gently, sometimes unexpectedly.

The pace and direction of the work is shaped by you. I hold the space with steadiness and care, supporting you to explore at a depth that feels right for you.

A Space for Deep Listening

At its heart, Core Process Psychotherapy is about relationship: your relationship with yourself, with others, and with your own inner experience.

It's not always easy work — but it can be transformative. Over time, people often describe feeling more connected, more resourced, and more able to meet life with presence and authenticity.

Marc Davies - Core Process Psychotherapist

About Me

My name is Marc Davies. I'm a Core Process Psychotherapist in training living and working in Bristol.

I've always been drawn to the deeper questions in life — how we make sense of our experience, what shapes who we are, and how we grow through difficulty. That curiosity has led me through many years of exploration in psychology, philosophy, religion, and personal practice.

Before training as a psychotherapist, I've worked in a variety of settings, but it was through my own process of inquiry and self-reflection that I came to recognise the value and depth of therapeutic work — not just as a tool for coping, but as a path to greater awareness and authenticity.

I've practiced meditation for 20 years, and mindfulness continues to be a foundational part of my life and work. For me, therapy is a space where the richness of presence and awareness can support real, lasting change — where we begin to understand not only what hurts, but what heals.

I'm passionate about this work because I've seen the difference it can make. Being present for someone to be fully themselves — perhaps for the first time — is both a privilege and a responsibility I take seriously.

Outside of my work, I enjoy boxing, running, a lot of reading. I believe in being honest about the messiness of life, and staying open to learning — always.
